You may be surprised to find out that just about your entire body is covered with hair, most of this hair is pale and fine and isn't visible to the naked eye.
In some circumstances as we age, go through menopause or perhaps due to our ethnic back grounds, some people may suffer from darker, coarser hair.
This hair may be visible and affect the face, neck, abdomen, breasts, back or arms.
As a result we may become self conscious and attempt to hide those areas that embarrass us. This may be the time to consider permanent hair removal.
Many people still resort to old fashioned hair removal techniques, such as plucking, waxing, shaving or chemical depilatories, that are messy and time consuming, and all provide temporary results.
Electrolysis is a popular and effective treatment of hair removal but can be painful and slow as a fine needle is inserted in to each hair root where an electric current passes through the needle to destroy the hair roots and enables its ability to grow.
This procedure is slow even for small areas as each hair treated may take up to 4 sessions before the root has died.
With the new effective Diode Laser, which is a state of the art system, it is specifically designed to remove unwanted hair, faster and less painfully than traditional methods.
The laser produces a highly concentrated beam of light which is absorbed by the pigment located in the hair follicles. The laser pulses for a fraction of a second to vaporize the pigment, disabling several follicles at a time to eliminate or impede the hairs regrowth.
This procedure is perfect for people with sensitive skin as it directs the laser to the hair root, whilst protecting and cooling the surrounding skin.
The procedure may take a few minutes to an hour, depending on the area being treated. Because the laser is treating hair follicles that are active, more than one treatment may be required. Also the coarser the hair the more follow up treatments may be required to disable the hair follicles from growing.
During treatment, you may feel a slight tingling sensation. Most patients tolerate this well. Some areas due to its sensitivity, such as bikini line may require a local anesthetic. All patients have a different pain threshold, and a local anesthetic is usually available if requested.
Every person is different as such the area treated after laser will vary from one person to another, depending on the skin type and the extent of treatment. Most after effects are minor and may include swelling and redness, which should disappear shortly after treatment.
Most people resume normal activities immediately after treatment.
As there is no set schedule fee for cosmetic consultants the price may vary between doctors.
