Liposuction

Liposuction is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures conducted today. A small canula is placed deep into fatty tissue and suction is applied until the required fat is removed. Carefully sculpting and contouring the body. The key to success is that the fat under the skin must be removed and remain smooth between the outer layers of skin. The Tumescent procedure remains the most popular method used by surgeons as it involves the infiltration of saline in to the fat prior to extraction. This solution usually contains local anesthetic and a constrictive agent. This combination loosens the fat, shrinks the blood vessels and anaesthetizes the area, which enables the surgeon to remove fat more easily and assists in reducing pain and bruising.

Scarring is minimal and approx. a 1 cm incision is made where required and will gradually fade in time and will be unnoticeable.

Liposculpture Describes the technique of shaping the waist, hips and thighs to give a well proportioned shape.
Liposhaping refers to an all over removal of body fat to reduce overall size.
Lipostructure using small amounts of extracted body fat to re-shape the facial contour.
Lipobuilding using larger amounts of extracted body fat to increase the breast size or expand body contours;
Superficial Liposuction Creates skin shrinkage by removing fat directly under the skin.
Tridimentional Liposuction Combining extraction of all 3 levels of fat to shape and lift the body and shrink the skin.

Almost all areas can be treated. Most common areas are abdomen, hips, buttocks, thighs, knees, upper arms, chin and cheek, male chests, female breasts, knees, calves and ankles. The fat removed can be transferred to fill or enhance facial or body contours in other areas if necessary.

Liposuction is a day procedure, for minor procedures some surgeons are equipped to perform the procedure in their own rooms.

Procedure time will vary depending on the amount of fat removed. Fat extracted can be from 500mls for a small area and increase to 7 litres of fat for total body shaping. It is considered unwise to remove more than 7 litres in one procedure as the body can go into shock. Many reputable surgeons will prefer not to complete total body reshaping in one procedure due to these risks

Post operatively, the area is covered with a compression garment designed to hold the body in shape whilst the remaining fat compresses into the new contour. This garment is worn day and night for approx 2 months, but may be taken off for a short time daily for a shower or bath.

Following the procedure you may feel some discomfort as there may be some swelling; bruising and stiffness.

Risks and Complications: Bruising is not uncommon and will be seen in the first few days after surgery and will gradually disappear in the first week or two. Waving skin is rare and is uncommon after surgery if a quality accredited surgeon performs this procedure. We only recommend the best surgeons for this procedure.

After Care: A dressing and pressure garment is applied after surgery and should be worn for a few days after surgery. This is to keep body contour in shape and to reduce the post operative bruises. Then the pressure garment should be worn for approx. another 6 weeks. Your surgeon will advise you accordingly as many variables to obtain maximum results, may also depend on skin elasticity.

Recovery: Discomfort due to surgery is limited and the patient may go back to work within the week. The discomfort usually experienced is one of stiffness. E.g. Perhaps your first work out at the gym in some time.

Results: You will see a noticeable difference in the contour of your body quite soon after surgery. However, improvement will become evident gradually as the swelling has subsided. After about three months, any mild swelling usually disappears and the final contour will be visible within the next 6 months.

After your procedure you could expect to reduce 1 garment size, however, this is not a weight reduction technique. Liposuction is designed to create a better body shape.

Hospital Admission: One night admission to hospital if required.

Anesthetic: General or twilight Anesthesia
